Use exposure compensation when photograph-

ing very bright, very dark, or high-contrast sub-

jects.

Choose positive (+) values

to increase exposure

Choose negative (–) values

to reduce exposure

Choosing an Exposure Compensation Value

• Backlit subjects: choose values

from +

3 EV to +1

3 EV (for an

• Highly re ective subjects or very

bright scenes (e.g., snowﬁ elds):

+1 E V

• Scenes that are mostly sky: +1 EV

• Spotlit subjects (particularly if photographed against

dark backgrounds): –

3 EV

• Subjects with low re ectivity (pine trees or dark-col-

ored foliage): –

3 EV

• Exposure compensation is available in B mode only.

• At settings other than ±0, a d icon is displayed in the monitor. Exposure compensation is not reset when the

camera is turned oﬀ ; to restore normal exposure control, choose a value of ±0. Exposure compensation is dis-

abled when the ﬂ ash is set to AUTO or V (red-eye reduction); when the ﬂ ash is set to T, exposure compensa-

tion is disabled if the subject is dark.
